How Braces Works
At Sepic & Madison Orthodontics, braces do more than just improve the look of your smile—they support your overall oral health. Misaligned teeth can lead to jaw pain, difficulty chewing, and even long-term bite issues. Overcrowding makes it harder to clean between teeth, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease.
Braces gently guide your teeth into proper alignment over time, helping to create a healthier bite, improved function, and a confident smile that lasts.

Braces Options to Fit Every Smile
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and arch wires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Self-Ligating BracesSelf-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics, meaning fewer appointments and less friction being placed on the tooth. Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the arch wire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
Clear (Ceramic) BracesCeramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Clear AlignersClear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
Lingual BracesLingual braces are hidden behind the teeth and are therefore “invisible” when you smile. Lingual braces are 100% customized to match the shape of your teeth; the metal appliances are created uniquely for you. Lingual braces are a very reasonable option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals.
Meet Our Orthodontists

Dr. Christopher Sepic
I am passionate about giving patients the very best orthodontic care in a friendly, relaxed, and family-oriented atmosphere. I get excited to see our established patients during their appointments and enjoy meeting new patients, getting to know their likes and hobbies, and seeing their enthusiasm as their teeth begin to straighten as treatment progresses. I feel so blessed to be able to play a small role in people’s lives by making their dream of having a beautiful smile come true!
While I’ve been practicing orthodontics for over 20 years, I began working at my father’s office when I was 12 years old. Having my dad as an example and seeing how much he loves being an orthodontist made it an easy decision to follow in his footsteps and accomplish my dream of working alongside my role model.

Dr. Craig Madison
Born and raised in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, I am a proud Pittsburgher - I actually grew up just a few miles from our Pleasant Hills location! I attended the University of Pittsburgh for both my undergraduate studies and Dental School, followed by my orthodontics residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Prior to returning home to Pittsburgh, I practiced orthodontics in Columbus, Ohio. I strive to provide my patients with excellent care and a smile they will take pride in for a lifetime. Seeing the impact of a nice smile on a patient’s life is what I love the most about my job! I look forward to meeting you all!
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife Lindsey and our two Portuguese Water Dogs, Bruce and Miller. I am a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan and love the outdoors, especially fly fishing. I am also involved in Project Healing Waters, a group that teaches fly fishing to disabled veterans. Giving back to the community is very important to me and something I try to do as much as I can.
